I was interested in checking my work and making sure cover images, internal images, table of contents and fonts were reasonably behaving across a range of mobile devices. This led me to wonder about uploading and viewing my current work in progress on a smart phone (an old HTC Evo) and my iPad, as well as viewing it in a Firefox epub reader on my laptop browser. I stumbled across this article, Smartphones: The Next Home of the Ebook? here on The Book Designer site discussing the potential of smart phones as ereaders. 1/7/2024 0 Comments Rupert and the frogsRupert's mother soon after calls him back home, and Rupert excitedly tells her about what he saw of the Frog Song. ![]() The king and queen are almost snatched by the barn owl, but they re-submerge just in time, the owl leaves, along with the cats, disappointed. After a thunderous applause from the frogs, The owl, (who sneaked in also undetected with the cats), launches for an attack on the royals, Rupert yells, "Look out!" and all the frogs quickly disappear. Around the end, the frog King and Queen rise out of the water before the crowd. After a moment of silence, most of the frogs sing "We All Stand Together". He sneaks into the palace, trying to avoid getting caught by the frog guards. I used to watch it when I was a child on CH2 (Baram. He walks into a cave behind a waterfall and sees three signs: "Frogs only beyond this Point", "Everything except frogs must be kept on a lead", and "Guard frogs operating". This is the full song as I ripped it from its very start till its very end from the original short movie. Upon the rocks, Rupert finds a large number of multicolored frogs. Once he leaves, a large white Barn Owl lands on the barren tree along with two black cats. Suddenly he finds himself enveloped by a rainbow cloud of butterflies, and all of them swarm away from the leafless oak tree towards a rocky outcrop and Rupert could not resist following them. Once there, he props himself up against the trunk of an oak tree and sucks in the glory of the countryside. Rupert accepts his friends are busy, as he sets out to the hills and wishes them a good day. From the Black and Blue tees, the player can’t see much of the expansive fairway. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the 385 yard par 4 first hole in person. While I would never play a course that long back in the OINK area, the altitude made it play more like 6200 yards. I played Black Mesas from the Blues, which are over 6700 yards. I normally play from the white or blue tees back home, around 6000-6500 yards. There’s also a great short game area and a couple of different putting greens. This was my first round at altitude, so it took a few range balls to really get the feel of how much farther my shots would go. The range is expansive and gives you a good feel on how its altitude, around 5500 feet, will affect your shots. The course has great practice facilities. Everything about this place is pure golf. The scenery, the way the course fits naturally into the land, the simplicity of the clubhouse and grill area. I have been wanting to play this course since I laid eyes on it. Black Mesa has even been featured on Golf Club Atlas. Black Mesa won Golf Digest’s Best Affordable Public Course award in 2003. Black Mesa Golf Club was designed by Baxter Span of Finger Dye Spann Architect Group, who are responsible for other New Mexico golf gems as Pinon Hills and Paa-Ko Ridge (more on this course in another post). teeing area that accompanies the range, two practice greens, state-of-the-art GPS carts, and a full-service pro shop and grill. For my first round in New Mexico, I went right for the top. Black Mesa features a short-game practice area, which presents golfers with all the same challenges around the green that they will encounter on the course. The course plays at 7,307 yards, par 72, with 105 bunkers. From the first tee shot you realize that mental strategy is essential, while the course’s expansive fairways and greens allow it to be played more easily than it appears. I hope that golfers will feel the same way about Black Mesa.”Ī great course tests both the mind and the body, and this statement holds true for Black Mesa. “More than any other project, I eagerly anticipated every trip I made to this course, always knowing I would find something new to experience. “I have been designing courses for more than 20 years,” said Spann. The combination of on-site landforms and off-site views is second to none. In addition, the course was designed to be fun and challenging in both calm and windy conditions. Black Mesa has a wild Irish links look to it, particularly in the spring after a wet winter when the native grasses are leafy and blowing in the breeze. As you enter the site, your first glimpse of the course gives you a taste of this vast, dramatic property. The environment at Black Mesa is pure, absent of any man-made distractions. The 18-hole site showcases distinctive bunkering, native arroyos as hazards, and green contouring in keeping with the scale of the natural landforms. Each hole is different, featuring characteristics that make each one both strategic and memorable in its own unique way. Designed by architect, Baxter Spann, of Finger Dye Spann, Inc., the course plays through dramatic sandstone ridges with Black Mesa visible from several locations. ![]() ![]() Home | Courses | Courses Map | Plan Your Trip | Directory | Visitor Info | Merchandise | Golf Links | Magazine | Partnersīlack Mesa Golf Club “could very well turn out to be the finest course, public or private, in the state,” according to Golf Digest.
